Everest is the highest mountain on earth above sea level. Everest is the crest of the Great Himalayas, which bound the territories of Nepal and the Tibetan region of China.
Since Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay were celebrated as the first to climb Everest in 1953, thousands more have attempted the feat. Due to the difficult and perilous nature of the endeavour, there is now a lot of red tape and reaching the top is an exercise that will tend to cost between $40,000 and $65,000 USD.
Everest is seen as a symbol of peak human endeavour and accomplishment.
